The concept of helping people maintain their families even if they are going through a difficult divorce is what Cherlyn Crosby found appealing about family law. Ms. Crosby has experience in mediation and as a certified mediator, a background that has helped tremendously in her practice. "Essentially I was taught how to listen to the problem and assist the parties in reaching a resolution," she said. "Using that idea in divorce allows the parties to work together to reach a resolution, which often allows them to begin the long process of forgiving each other and working together for the sake of their children." LicensesMs. Crosby is licensed to practice in the state of Missouri. EducationMs. Crosby received her Bachelor of General Studies and a minor in Counseling and Educational Psychology from the University of Nevada. She received her Juris Doctor from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School with a concentration in Constitutional Law and Civil Rights. AssociationsShe currently belongs to the Missouri Bar, Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and the American Bar Association. ExperienceAfter graduation and before law school, she worked as a drug and alcohol counselor specializing in the treatment of incarcerated minors, which led to a position with the National Council for Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Throughout law school, Ms. Crosby focused on general litigation, family law, constitutional law, and alternative dispute resolution. She participated in the Cooley Mediation clinic handling small claims mediations for the circuit court. Subsequently, Ms. Crosby became a certified general civil mediator in Michigan. She was also a legislative intern with the American Civil Liberties Union where she researched and drafted legislation, screened incoming clients for possible civil liberties cases, and lectured on a variety of different issues. She was also the editor, writer, and copywriter for Cooley’s newspaper, The Pillar, where she received numerous accolades. Volunteer WorkIn the past, Ms. Crosby worked with survivors of domestic violence who are incarcerated for killing their abusers. end faq |
