As a child of divorce, Jill A. Duffy knows that how a divorce is handled has an impact on the rest of your family's life.

"My job is to help you get through it as smoothly as possible while advocating for your rights and empowering you to chose the direction of your case," Ms. Duffy said.

Her background includes psychodrama and reenactment skill training that Ms. Duffy says helps her be empathetic with clients who are going through a difficult process.

"What I draw from those skills is being able to understand where the client is coming from, why they reacted in certain ways to each situation and what emotions they are feeling," she said.

Ms. Duffy says her ability to remain calm and keep focus on the big picture is important to clients who are going through an emotional transition.

Graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish from Oakland University; graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law.

Experience

While in law school, Ms. Duffy interned with the Michigan Pension Rights Project, prosecuted misdemeanors for the City of Flint, and clerked for the Honorable Joseph Farah of the Genesee County Circuit Court. She was also a member of Michigan State University negotiation team at the American Bar Association Law Student Division Negotiation Regional Competition.

Additionally, she was president of Michigan State University's Family Law Society. 

Ms. Duffy's experience also includes being a summer associate at a civil litigation firm, where they focused on business litigation and divorce matters. Prior to practicing domestic relations exclusively, Ms. Duffy practiced civil litigation, domestic relations and criminal defense in a small Oakland County firm.

Other Qualifications

Graduated from the Western Trial Advocacy Institute at the University of Wyoming and studied with graduates of the Trial Lawyer’s College, acquiring psychodrama and reenactment training. She has also contributed an article on marital property in Michigan.
