Holly D. Hearn doesn't favor a specific area of family law over others, but she is always glad when she is able to recognize the issue or conflict present in a client’s case and take action to ease the client’s burden.

"As family law attorneys, we are problem solvers, and the needs of clients and their children should always be paramount," Ms. Hearn said.

Different cases require different approaches and skills, and it is important to recognize the approach needed on a case-by-case basis and utilize the appropriate skill set that fits the facts of the case, according to Ms. Hearn.

One of the hardest things family lawyers face is when children are the victims of abuse, neglect, alienation, or the family law system has failed to keep them safe, she said.

"I am most proud of the cases where I have been able to give children a voice and get them out of a bad or abusive situation when Child Protective Services or the state has failed," Ms. Hearn said.

Education

Ms. Hearn graduated cum laude from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in History. She received her Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.

Experience

Prior to joining Cordell & Cordell, Ms. Hearn handled estate planning, criminal defense and complex family law matters including adoption, foster parent intervention and grandparents’ rights.

She previously worked on sensitive issues in the family law area including abuse, neglect and drug addiction, and she has extensive experience dealing with the Department of Child and Protective Services and the Office of the Attorney General. She has been involved with multiple high-profile cases that garnered national press and media coverage.

Volunteer Work

Ms. Hearn has done pro bono work on Child Protective Services cases, termination of parental rights cases, and a capital murder case. She currently does pro bono work when appointed by local judges to assist those in need in the family court system.
