Barbara Johnson-Stern is proud to be a lawyer. She works hard to continually improve the level of service and representation given to her clients.

One of the biggest and most important aspects of her work is being prepared.

"As Abraham Lincoln said it, 'If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend six hours sharpening my ax.' The vast majority of the work I do every day for our clients is sharpening the ax," Ms. Johnson-Stern said. "I think it’s essential that I’m prepared so that my clients are prepared to either reach a resolution or litigate. Preparation is essential in helping clients develop goals and develop strategy for how to reach those goals."

Education

She received her B.S. from Colorado State University in 1991 and graduated fourth in her class from Ohio Northern University where she received her Juris Doctor. While at Ohio Northern, she served on the Law Review as a staff editor and later advanced to Editor in Chief.

Experience

Ms. Johnson-Stern has practiced family law almost exclusively since she became a lawyer in 1999.

Other Qualifications

A frequent presenter, Ms. Johnson-Stern has spoken at CLEs (Continuing Legal Education seminars) for the Colorado Bar Association, and moderated and coordinated CLEs for the Colorado Bar on family law topics.

Her article, "Securing the Nonparents Place in a Child's Life Through Adoption and Adoption Alternatives" was published in the October Family Law Special Issue of The Colorado Lawyer, the official publication of the Colorado Bar Association.

She also received notice from Thomson West that this article has been selected for inclusion in the Journals & Law Reviews database on Westlaw.com - a premier legal research directory used by attorneys and legal professionals.

Associations

Ms. Johnson-Stern is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the Young Lawyers Division of the Arapahoe County Bar Association. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Arapahoe Bar Association where she has been awarded the Rising Star award.

Miscellaneous

When she is not busy practicing law, Ms. Johnson-Stern, a long-time Colorado resident, spends time with her husband white water kayaking.
