Joe Cordell Discusses Divorce Alimony On AskMen.com

In the wake of a reported $100 million-dollar payout awarded to Tiger Woods' ex-wife, many men and women who are approaching the end of their marriage are no doubt wondering what are their chances of receiving support or having to support their ex- or soon-to-be ex-spouse after the divorce is finalized.

What are the factors that go into a court's determination that one side should continue to support the other after the dissolution of a marriage? How much, if any, should be awarded and for how long? And what role do factors such as fault play in the court's decision?

In the second article of the Divorce Files series, "Divorce Alimony," Cordell & Cordell founding partner, Joseph Cordell, explains the factors that come into play in determining if alimony, or "maintenance" as it is often called, is to be awarded in a divorce.

Cordell explains the roles of fault and state jurisdiction as they apply to awards of alimony or maintenance in divorce by giving real-world examples of how Cordell & Cordell, the world's largest firm focusing on family law for men, has handled this issue in the past.

Joe Cordell Featured In AskMen.com Divorce Column

The first article in the series Child Custody: The Divorce Files appears on the website, AskMen.com this week. The go-to experts on anything for men, AskMen.com, recently began running a bi-weekly divorce column penned by Cordell & Cordell founder and CEO, Joseph Cordell.

"Cordell & Cordell believe that by educating himself, a man can avoid potentially costly pitfalls as he steps into the high-stakes arena of divorce," Cordell explains. "We simply believe that a man can and must be educated as to the dangers and potential pitfalls awaiting him in the divorce courts, particularly if he is a father. This is why we have taken the leadership role in our industry by making divorce resources available on our own website as well as our DadsDivorce.com website. We also know that an educated client is most often a successful client and, therefore, a satisfied client."

AskMen.com, which bills itself as "A men's online magazine offering the best advice on dating, secrets of love, celebrity biography, relationships and health" will be running the ongoing divorce column to help men understand what is at stake in their divorce.
