CNN: Economy Prolongs Some Marriage, Ends Others
The economy has had an effect, see what Cordell & Cordell had to say in an interview with CNN:
The Cordell and Cordell law firm, which bills itself as one of the largest divorce firms in the country, has been running radio ads suggesting people whose assets have tanked may want to consider divorce because they'll lose less money to their partner, said Joseph Cordell, the firm's principal partner.
Cordell said the advice is meant only for couples who are certain they want to divorce.
"For guys that know they're going to end up getting divorced, they really need to realize that, oddly enough, it's when they can least afford it that it can make the most sense," he said.

Mr. Cordell's writing is direct, in some cases almost blunt, but he clearly outlines the issues every divorcing father needs to keep in mind in a logical and down-to-earth fashion.
In Chapter 1, Mr. Cordell writes that this book is "not a socio-philosophical discussion", and indeed it is not. Filled with practical and useable advice, Mr. Cordell relates some frank truths about how lawyers and judges really behave, and what is likely to influence them.

National Law Journal: A Father's Rights Firm Branches Out With Three New Offices
Joseph Cordell, Principal Partner of Cordell & Cordell spoke with the National Law Journal about his firm’s recent expansion and the perception of disadvantages that men face in family court. Cordell, whose firm specializes in representing men in divorce litigation, stated “We were always representing more men than women and saw a lot of challenges guys face that women don’t. It is the reverse of other circumstances in our culture.” He explained that many times men are at a disadvantage in family court because of self-fulfilling prophecies. “I’ve been told that when guys fight for primary custody they succeed about as often as moms do, but the reality is most guys don’t fight for primary custody because they believe they have no prospect of success. Guys come to us, heads hanging low about their expectations, because of what they hear at work or maybe from other lawyers. That’s how you end up with a man who agrees to pay 75% of his income to mom and child, so he ends up working a second job and still cannot participate in his child’s life to the extent he wants. No one wins in that situation.” Read the full article here. |
